LOS ANGELES, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- A trio of young stars on the blockbuster series of romantic vampire films "Twilight" were immortalized in cement Thursday morning, 15 days before the release of their next installment "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1."
Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner put their hands and feet into the wet cement in the forecourt of Grauman's Chinese Theatre, to the applause of hundreds of fans who began to gather as early as 6 a.m.
"I think it's really cool to be part of the Hollywood history, and a part of this amazing tradition and we'll walk and see all the other names about amazing artists," Stephanie Meyer, author of the popular series of novels "Twilight," on which the film franchise was based, said before the less-than-15-minute ceremony took place.
"This is so crazy for us," Stewart said. "...I think it's the coolest thing I've ever done in my life."
Pattinson, who played the title role of the vampire, thanked fans for their support. "Your support is unreal, we won't be here today if it wasn't for you," he said.
The franchise about the development of the relationship between teenager girl Bella Swan and a vampire named Edward Cullen, and the subsequent efforts of Cullen and his family to keep Swan safe from a coven of evil vampires, has appealed to droves of teenagers around the world. The first three films have grossed more than 1.8 billion U.S. dollars in receipts at box offices around the world.
The penultimate installment of the series, "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1" is slated to hit the screen Nov. 18. The final chapter, "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2," will premiere Nov. 16, 2012.
