Jennifer Lopez to become new "American Idol" judge

BEIJING, July 30 (Xinhuanet) -- The superstar singer/actress Jennifer Lopez has accepted a new job as the judge on "Ameircan Idol," according to online reports.

The news comes just after Ellen DeGeneres announced her stepping down from the position as Idol's judge.

"A couple of months ago, I let FOX and the 'American Idol' producers know that this didn't feel like the right fit for me," Ellen said in a statement issued to Access Hollywood on Thursday.

"I told them I wouldn't leave them in a bind and that I would hold off on doing anything until they were able to figure out where they wanted to take the panel next."

With two open seats now on the "American Idol" judging panel, all types of celebrity names have been bandied about as possible replacements.

"Jennifer accepted the Idol judge position," an Idol insider confirms to OK!. "They are ironing out contracts as we speak so unless something goes wrong it's a done deal."
