S. Korea sweeps golds in 24th International Ballet Competition

VARNA, Bulgaria, July 29 (Xinhua) -- South Korea won all gold medals in the 24th International Ballet Competition here on Thursday.

Kim Myunglyu dominated the men's category, Park Sae Eun -- the women's, Kim Kimin -- the boys' and Chae Ji Young -- the girls' competition.

Two Chinese dancers got silver medals -- Ma Xiaodong and Zhang Siyuan in the men's and women's categories respectively.

Bronze medal for Avetik Karapetyan of Armenia in men's category, and for Maria Elisa Baranova of Finland in the girls' competition were the rest prizes awarded in Varna.

Since July 19, 113 male and female dancers from 32 countries participated in this event, which is the first ever international ballet competition in the world.

Competitors were judged by an International Jury led by Russian ballet legend Yuri Grigorovich, a Choreographer and Director, forever associated with the Bolshoi Ballet. Among the jury' members was also Xiao Suhua, a Professor from the Beijing Dance Academy.

The International Ballet Competition Varna was established in 1964. Many brilliant masters such as Mikhail Barishnikov, Vladimir Vassiliev, Natalia Makarova, Natalia Bessmertnova, Patrick Dupond, Agnes Letestu, Yoko Morishita and Evelin Hart started their international carrier in Varna.
