At the Hollywood Museum, visitors admired an exhibit including hundreds of never-before seen items representing the Walk of Fame's 50th anniversary.

Musical performances were given at the Egyptian Theater stage by the country, pop and rock singer Raihanna Estrada; the contemporary pop singer Jamie Meyer; and the 1980s and 1990s cover band The Deloreans who performed hits from some of the Walk of Fame's most memorable artists.

"Many restaurants, retailers and attractions also are joining the celebration offering discounts, special menu items and giveaways," Hollywood Chamber of Commerce spokesperson Ana Martinez-Holler said.

The idea of creating the Walk of Fame was first floated by E.M. Stuart, the then president of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in the 1950s. He proposed the project in an effort to "maintain the glory of a community whose name means glamor and excitement in the four corners of the world."

The construction started on Feb.8, 1960 and was completed in the following year. Nearly 2,500 5-pointed terrazzo and brass stars bearing names of selected entertainers, artists and fictional characters were embedded on an 18-block stretches of sidewalks along the Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street.
