BEIJING, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- State Councilor Liu Yandong called for closer Sino-U.S. joint efforts on women's development during her meeting Wednesday with Melanne Verveer, U.S. State Department's ambassador-at-large for global women's issues.

Liu spoke highly of the achievements made by the two sides in promoting women exchanges and cooperation since the establishment of a system for dialogue pertaining to women's issues.

Dialogue among women from both nations, particularly for exchanges between women leaders, was set up within the framework of bilateral people-to-people exchange during the second annual high-level China-U.S. Consultation on People-to-People Exchange (CPE) in April.

China hopes for closer contacts with the United States in promoting the development of women in order to breathe new life into the healthy development of bilateral relations, Liu said.
