BEIJING, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Heavy rain is expected to sweep south China's Hainan and Guangdong provinces and Fujian and Taiwan in the southeast during the next four days as Typhoon Nalgae nears, forecasters said Monday.

Nalgae, the second typhoon in a week, was centered about 470 km southeast of Sanya City, Hainan Province at 8 a.m. Monday, and was forecast to move westward at 10-15 km per hour, the National Meteorological Center (NMC) said.

Rainfalls spawn by the typhoon are expected to reach up to 400 mm in some areas of south China. Strong winds will also hit the eastern areas of south of the Yangtze River, Taiwan and south China from Monday to early Tuesday, according to the NMC.

The weather agency has urged people in typhoon-affected areas avoid outdoor activities and suggested large assemblies be canceled.

In addition, it called on grain producers to guard against cold dew wind which was brought by cold fronts heading south.

The northern parts of the country will have fine weather with temperature rebounding, the NMC said.
