BEIJING, June 21 (Xinhua) -- Former Vice Premier Zeng Peiyan has hailed the Communist Party of China (CPC) as an outstanding leader and practitioner of the country's reform and opening-up initiative, which he said has been "carried out successfully" over the past three decades.
Zeng made the remarks in a signed article published in this year's 11th issue of Qiushi, or "Seeking Truth," the biweekly official journal of the CPC Central Committee.
Zeng said in the article that the CPC has stayed with the times, using a continuously developing version of Marxism to guide their efforts in reforming and opening the country.
Zeng also said that the CPC has put development at the top of its agenda in governing the country while simultaneously striving to improve its ability to govern.
China has made great achievements since adopting its reform and opening-up policy in 1978, the article said. The policy successfully transformed the country's economy, turning it into a dynamic socialist market, the article said.
However, China now faces many new challenges, according to Zeng.
"China must press forward in its pursuit of reform and opening-up, and consider the policy as a driving force in the adjustment of its economic growth mode," the article said.
"The CPC must push forward comprehensive reforms with greater resolution and create a new set of reform and opening-up policies," the article said.
The CPC should do its best to reduce the cost of these policies and allow the Chinese people to share in the fruits of China's development, the article said.
Zeng said that with persistent efforts over the next decade or so, the CPC will continue to lead China to further development and realize the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
