HONG KONG, May 18 (Xinhua) -- Hong Kong's Ocean Park, a well- known home grown theme park opening in 1977, said on Wednesday that it has broken its annual attendance record by surpassing the 5.1 million mark in the current fiscal year ending June 30.
It was the seventh time in the last eight years for the park, which has received more than 100 million people since its inception, to create new annual attendance record.
There were 5.1 million people visiting the park in 2009/2010 fiscal year.
"The record-breaking performances testified to our continuous efforts to give Hong Kong a world-class theme park and tourist destination," said Allan Zeman, Chairman of Ocean Park, in a celebration event in the day.
Zeman attributed the rising arrivals to the park to surging tourists in Hong Kong, as well as interesting presentations and attractions the park provided. "We have welcomed about 20 percent more non-local guests this year," he said.
With more attractions on the way, including "the Rainforest" opening in June and "Polar Adventure" in 2012, the park will bring more enthusiasm and ecstasy to the visitors, Zeman added.
The record breaking guest, a local man surnamed Ng, came to the park on Wednesday morning with his wife and two young daughters. As rewards, each family member will receive a lifetime VIP pass permitting lifelong free entrance to the park.
