CHANGCHUN, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang has emphasized several major areas he believes are essential in maintaining stable economic growth in 2011 to assure a good start for the 12th Five-year Program period from 2011 to 2015.
Li made the remarks during an inspection tour in northeastern Jilin Province on Friday and Saturday, where he visited shantytowns, affordable housing communities, farmers and PetroChina's refinery.
The government's plan to build 10 million affordable homes while moving forward with the renovation of shantytowns this year would not only meet the population's demand, but also help manage inflationary expectations and boost domestic demand, Li said.
To achieve these goals, Li asked local governments to improve their operations and policies, multiply fund-raising channels while ensuring the quality of construction.
Li also urged that efforts be made to guarantee the grain supply, which he said would lay a solid foundation for stable economic growth and price stability.
He further called for increased efforts to boost energy supplies and ensure market supplies, as well as guarantee food safety.
