BEIJING, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- Senior Chinese leader Li Changchun has paid visits respectively to some cultural personages ahead of the Spring Festival, or Chinese Lunar New Year, encouraging them to produce more good works and train more talents.
Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, extended festive greetings to figures in China's cultural circles on behalf of President Hu Jintao and the CPC Central Committee.
Li expressed his hope that distinguished cultural workers like them will promote cultural prosperity through innovation.
He called on scholars and artists in the cultural sector to provide powerful spiritual incentives and cultural conditions for the country's social and economic development over the next five years.
Among the people he visited were Zhu Muzhi, former director of the State Council's Information Office; Pang Xianzhi, former director of the Party Literature Research Center of the CPC Central Committee; writer Tie Ning; dramatist Yan Su; film director Zhai Junjie; calligrapher Li Duo; Peking Opera artist Du Jinfang; veteran broadcaster Ge Lan; and sculptor Zeng Zhushao.
