BEIJING, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has called on local authorities to improve channels for communication with the masses and better handle petitions from the people.
Zhou Yongkang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and the secretary of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks during a recent inspection tour to east China's Shandong Province.
During his stay in Shandong, Zhou visited cities including Linyi and Jining, and inspected venues, including the lobby for petitioners and the comprehensive service hall with the Luozhuang District Public Security Branch, Daguanyuan Community on Nanfang Street, all in Linyi City, as well as the Shizhong District Court and the People's Procuratorate of Jining City.
He said it is necessary to seriously implement the guidelines of the 5th plenary session of the 17th CPC Central Committee and to plan social development for the 12th five-year-plan period (2011-2015).
"Great achievements should be achieved in major tasks of working to resolve disputes and enforcing laws and regulations in fair and honest way," said Zhou.
He also emphasized the importance of making a full use of modern technology to advance innovation in social management and standardization of law enforcement.
