MACAO, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Macao's price index of construction materials for residential buildings rose by 4.5 percent quarter-to-quarter to 138.3 in the second quarter of 2010, according to the figures released on Thursday by the city's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).
Of the residential construction materials the price indices of steel and timber increased by 14.9 percent and 1.9 percent quarter- to-quarter respectively, while the price indices of aluminum and concrete went down by 2.4 percent and 1.9 percent, the figures indicated.
Compared with the same quarter of 2009, the price index of construction materials for residential buildings registered an increase of 14 percent in the period.
As regards general construction materials, the average price of spiral and round reinforcing steel bars and Portland cement respectively rose by 15.5 percent and 4.5 percent quarter-to- quarter in the period, the DSEC said.
Meanwhile, the average price of concrete registered a decrease of 2.2 percent to 308 patacas (38.5 U.S. dollars) per cubic meter, according to the DSEC.
