Jilin is the latest province to be hit by fatal floods that have left 928 people dead and 477 missing as of 9 a.m. Wednesday, according to China's flood control and drought relief headquarters.
Rainstorms have lashed a dozen provinces this summer, including Hubei,Liaoning, Jiangxi, Shaanxi, Sichuan, Henan, Jilin, and Anhui, triggering floods and landslides.
But with the water flow rate into the Three Gorges Dam dropping below 45,000 cubic meters per second by midday Thursday, more than 20,000 evacuated people in Wuhan began to return home and shipping services through the Three Gorges resumed.
Floods had affected a total of 134 million people in 28 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions, resulting in direct economic losses of 176.5 billion yuan (26.04 billion U.S. dollars), said the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters.
A total of 875,000 homes had collapsed, 9.61 million people had been evacuated and 8.76 million hectares of crops were affected by floods nationwide, according to the headquarters.

JILIN, Jilin Province, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Thirteen people are dead and six missing after floods swept through Yongji County in northeast China's Jilin Province, disrupting the lives of 150,000 residents, officials said Thursday.
The overnight rainfall had reached 200 mm in Yongji by early Wednesday, making it the heaviest torrential rain on record in the county. Full story
Workers rush to retrieve 3,000 chemical-filled barrels in major northeast China river
JILIN, Jilin Province, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Workers were racing Thursday to retrieve the 3,000 chemical-filled barrels that were swept by floods into the Songhua River in northeast China's Jilin Province.
Each barrel contained 170 kilograms of chemicals, officials said at a press conference Thursday. Another 4,000 empty barrels also entered the Songhua River. Full story

JILIN, Jilin Province, July 29 (Xinhua) -- About 3,000 barrels filled with chemicals have been swept into a major river in northeast China's Jilin Province, thousands more than originally thought, authorities said Thursday.

Rainstorms hit northeast China, 152,000 people relocated
BEIJING, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Rainstorms have caused havoc in the northeastern provinces of Liaoning and Jilin since Monday, leading to the collapse of 5,700 houses and relocation of 152,000 people, the Ministry of Civil Affairs said Thursday.
In Liaoning, 5,200 houses were flattened and 105,000 people relocated as of 10 a.m. Thursday, while in Jilin 500 houses were destroyed and 47,000 people moved, said a ministry spokesman. Full story
