XI'AN, July 25 (Xinhua) -- More than 700 workers were speeding up their efforts to repair a collapsed river dike in northwest China's Shaanxi Province, after heavy rains began pounding the region Thursday, said local flood control authorities Sunday.
A 20-meter-long section of the embankments of the Qianhe River in Qianhe Township, Baoji City, collapsed around 8:30 a.m. Saturday, after being lashed by the swollen Qianhe River, said a spokesman with the city's flood control and drought relief office.
No casualties had been reported, but the collapse is threatening the Qianhe Bridge which is on the Lianyungang-Lanzhou Railway, the spokesman said.
