Macao's Tourist Price Index up 12.29% in Q2

MACAO, July 15 (Xinhua) -- Macao's Tourist Price Index (TPI) for the second quarter of 2010 rose by 12.29 percent over the same period of last year to 164.04, according to the figures released on Thursday by the city's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).

The DSEC figures indicated that the price indices of miscellaneous goods, Accommodation, clothing and footwear, food, alcoholic drinks and tobacco, transport and communications, and restaurant services increased notably in the period by 23.48 percent, 17.38 percent, 8.69 percent, 6.22 percent, 6.09 percent and 4.79 percent year-on-year respectively.

Meanwhile, the price index of Entertainment and cultural activities registered a slight decrease of 0.05 percent year-on- year in the second quarter.

Compared with the first quarter, the TPI for the second quarter went up by 1.38 percent quarter-to-quarter, of which the price indices of miscellaneous goods, clothing and footwear, and food, alcoholic drinks and tobacco increased by 6.01 percent, 2.86 percent and 2.17 percent respectively, according to the DSEC.

As for the first half of 2010, local TPI went up by 10.84 percent over the same period of last year, the DSEC also said.

TPI reflects the price changes of goods and services purchased by visitors, which is compiled according to the consumption pattern of visitors.
