BEIJING, July 1 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor Liu Yandong Thursday met with President of the University of Michigan (U-M) Mary Sue Coleman and discussed China-U.S. cooperation in education.
Hailing the cooperation programs the university has carried out with the Ministry of Education and some Chinese universities, Liu said she hoped the U-M would deepen cooperation with Chinese universities in more areas, and promote understanding and friendship between the youth of the two countries to help develop China-U.S. relations.
China's Ministry of Education and the U-M jointly held a seminar program for leaders of Chinese universities. The seminar aimed to improve their teaching and management.
the U-M also jointly established a college of engineering and technology with Shanghai Jiaotong University in 2006.
