YAN'AN, April 22 (Xinhua) -- Senior Chinese leader Zhou Yongkang Thursday urged the nation's judges to be impartial and clean in dispensing justice.

Zhou, secretary of the Political and Legislative Affairs Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the appeal in a written instruction to a national meeting of high court presidents in Shaanxi Province.

Zhou, a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, called for more efforts in resolving social conflicts, innovative social management as well as fair and honest justice.

He also called for improvements in judicial work styles and credibility to achieve social fairness and justice and accelerate building of a country ruled by law.

President of the Supreme People's Court Wang Shengjun, who was present at the meeting, stressed "the promotion of social justice and deepened reform of nation's courts" in his address.


Senior Chinese leader stresses just law enforcement

BEIJING, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Senior Chinese leader Zhou Yongkang has urged law enforcement departments at all levels to ensure their work practices are just and incorrupt to better solve social conflicts and uphold justice.

"Currently, our country is experiencing a period when social conflicts are prominent and more and more cases have emerged in the judicial field," Zhou told a plenary meeting for the Political and Legislative Affairs Committee of the CPC Central Committee here Monday.  Full story
