SINGAPORE, March 1 (Xinhua) -- Singapore Chinese newspaper Lianhe Zaobao on Monday spoke highly of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao 's recent remarks on China's Taiwan, saying it is a positive signal for the region's stability and development.

In its editorial, the local newspaper said that Wen's remarks fully shows the continuity of the mainland's policy towards Taiwan, and this will help bring positive policy anticipation.

The editorial said that the mainland's adherence to its policy of peaceful development across the Taiwan Straits will surely act as a new stimulus to the regional stability.

Wen's remarks, along with Chinese President Hu Jintao's recent speech to Taiwanese businessmen in Zhangzhou, Fujian, will no doubt be helpful to disperse the shadow over the Taiwan Straits. This will not only be welcomed by regional countries, but also a timely and new year gift China has given to international investors in Asia.

During an online chat with Internet users through two state news portals in Beijing last Saturday, Wen said that advancing the cross-Strait Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA) conforms to the interests of people on the mainland and Taiwan.

As Taiwan compatriots are mainland's brothers, the mainland could sacrifice part of its interests in the negotiations of the ECFA to the interests of Taiwan's medium and small-sized enterprises and the Taiwan public, especially those of Taiwan farmers, Wen said.
