BEIJING, Sept. 18 (Xinhuanet) -- An Air Canada pilot diverted his fight to Toronto to ensure survival of Simba, a pet passenger.
Simba, a seven-year-old French Bulldog, was transported in cargo while its owner was in the cabin above.
According to Air Canada, the temperature needs to be at above 10 degrees Celsius when dealing with canine travellers.
Air Canada spokesman Peter Fitzpatrick said the pilot recognized a heating problem of the cargo and realized that the dog might not survive if the plane flew over the Atlantic Ocean.
So the pilot diverted the plane to Frankfurt, transferred the dog to another plane and made it to Toronto only 75 minutes behind schedule.
Simba's owner was grateful for the pilot's decision. "It's my dog, it's like (my) child. It's everything," he said.
Passengers who had to wait more than a hour while Simba had no complaints. "It was definitely the right thing to do," a passenger was quoted as saying.
