BEIJING, Jan. 13 (Xinhuanet) -- A woman jumped off a 70-meter-high bridge into the Yangtze River in Luzhou, Sichuan province in Southwestern China on Jan 10, 2014. Miraculously, she was saved by her own down jacket and survived.
The police in Luzhou received a call last Saturday afternoon reporting that a woman had jumped off the Yangtze River Bridge. Officers were immediately sent to the rescue.
When rescue workers arrived, they found a woman in a black down jacket in the river. She was still conscious and was sent to the hospital at once.
Police officers believe that the woman's down jacket might be the crucial reason for her survival. The woman's jacket made it likely for her to have fallen straight down, so that the impact force was not deadly. And rescue workers were able to find her in time because her down jacket did not soak up water, becoming a "life jacket" that allowed her to float.
The woman remained in the ICU at Luzhou TCM Hospital last night for in-depth observation. Although she was seriously injured, her vital signs have already become stable.
