MEXICO CITY, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- Rescuers on Wednesday located eight Canadian mountain climbers reported missing in Mexico's central state of Puebla.
A local mayor announced around 2 p.m. local time (2000 GMT) via Twitter that the eight climbers were found, two of them with injuries.
"They have rescued the 8 mountain climbers. Two of them are injured. They were found on the Veracruz side," posted Juan Navarro, the mayor of Ciudad Serdan, in central Puebla state.
The climbers had set off to scale the 5,636-meter Pico de Orizaba, Mexico's highest mountain, and the third highest in North America. The volcano lies on the border of Puebla and Veracruz states.
Early in the day, the Canadians reportedly contacted their consulate for help, and consular agents had in turn contacted a Mexican mountain climbing association.
When the mayor was contacted, he asked members of Mexico's specialized Delta Group to send a search party.
No information was available on the climbers, including when they set out.
