CANBERRA, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- Australian flag carrier Qantas has apologized after a third flight failed to reach its destination, making an unscheduled landing, in the past 24 hours.
An A380 aircraft flying from Sydney to Dallas, the United States, was forced to return to the Sydney International Airport on Monday evening due to technical difficulties.
That incident followed two emergency landings in Western Australia earlier in the day, with a Boeing 737 aircraft flying from Perth to Karratha and an A380 plane traveling from Dubai to Sydney also forced to make impromptu stops.
"We've sincerely apologized to our customers for their patience and understanding for what was a frustrating experience," the airline said via a statement.
Monday represented a bittersweet day for Qantas, who also posted a 456 million U.S. dollar improvement on profits in between the three grounded flights.
Earlier in the year, there had been pressure on CEO Alan Joyce to resign after announcing a 2.3 billion U.S. dollar loss. However, he has since turned the airline's fortunes around and has forecast a 290 million U.S. dollar half-year profit.
