BEIJING, Nov. 28 (Xinhuanet) -- Durian shells and other agricultural crops should be further promoted as material for making national costumes, like Baju Batik, said Sabri bin Yaakob, Malaysian Minister of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry on Wednesday.
Sabri said that crops could be used to make Baju Batik, which is designed with beautiful patterns and floral pictures, and environment friendly.
As Universiti Teknologi MARA has started the research on this subject, he also said, durian shells and mangosteen skin could all be used as costume materials.
Sabri hoped that more universities and private institutes could join related plans.
Wax-printed, Baju Batik is well regarded as Malaysia’s national costume and Malaysians would habitually go to their work wearing Baju Batik every Thursday.
