ISLAMABAD, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will lead a Pakistani delegation to participate in the South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation (SAARC) summit to be held in Kathmandu, Nepal, on Nov. 26-27, the Foreign Ministry said on Sunday.
On the sidelines of the event, the prime minister will meet other SAARC leaders to discuss issues of bilateral and regional interest, a Foreign Ministry statement said.
"Pakistan attaches high importance to SAARC and is committed to the SAARC process. Pakistan firmly believes that given the resources, the SAARC region has the potential to become the engine for global economic growth for the 21st century," the Foreign Ministry said.
SAARC groups Afghanistan Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Pakistan, the Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
The Foreign Ministry earlier said that there is no meeting scheduled between Sharif and his Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi, who will also attend the summit.
