KATHMANDU, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Nepal government official said on Thursday that 700 Nepali journalists and 276 ones from other countries have registered to cover the 18th SAACC Summit which will be held in Nepal's capital city Kathmandu in the last week of this November.
Laxmi Bilas Koirala, Director General of Department of Information under the Ministry of Information and Communication told Xinhua that they have received 1148 online applications till 4 pm (local time) on Thursday, the deadline for the media accreditation application.
Laxmi said that the true applicants would be less than this number because of repeat application.
According to the department, except Nepal, the host nation, Indian has 106 applicants for the two day summit, the most one among SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) member states. There are 102 applicants from Bangladesh, 17 from Afghanistan, 15 from Sri Lanka, 6 each from Pakistan and Maldives and 2 from Bhutan.
Only few journalists, however, have the chance to enter into City Hall, the main venue of the regional summit on November 26 and 27 because Nepal's government only allows limited state media houses to take pictures and shoot footages inside the China-built hall with the sitting capacity for 676 persons.
Other places concerning the summit are open for media person with the pass, like the media center at Radisson hotel and the Soaltee Hotel, where the sideline talks will be held.
"The large size number of the journalists means the coverage will also be of big size."Laxmi Bilas Koirala said.
