NAIROBI, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Kenya Airways confirmed on Monday its plane with 38 passengers on board from Delhi, India, made an emergency landing at Moi International Airport in Mombasa after developing mechanism problem.

The airline's CEO Designate Mbuvi Ngunze said the flights KQ 221 developed a mechanical fault in the fuel control system and although it had enough fuel, it needed to land at the nearest alternate airport.

"This was also a precautionary measure, as the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport airspace was closed for Mashujaa day celebrations at the time it was to land in Nairobi," Ngunze said in a statement issued in Nairobi.

He said the Boeing 737- 700 carrying 38 passengers was due to arrive in Nairobi at 12:20 p.m.

"Kenya Airways is working to ensure all the passengers and crew arrive safely to Nairobi as soon as possible. We apologize for any inconveniences caused," Ngunze said.
