OTTAWA, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper spoke Thursday afternoon with U.S. President Barack Obama by phone on the evolving Ebola crisis in West Africa and international efforts to fight against Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), according to the Office of Canadian prime minister.
The two leaders discussed coordinated international efforts to combat the Ebola epidemic in West Africa. Harper welcomed Obama's effort to rally additional international support and he also indicated that Canada is a strong contributor to the international effort, saying that additional support would be announced in the coming days, said the office.
Harper and Obama also discussed the situation in Iraq and ongoing international efforts to degrade ISIL.
For his part, Obama thanked Harper for Canada's considerable contributions to the fight against ISIL. Both leaders underlined the importance of the broad coalition that is working together on this mission, according to the office.
