Indonesian foreign tourists rises 7 pct in August

JAKARTA, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- The number of Indonesian foreign tourists in August scaled up by 7.24 percent to 826,800 on yearly basis, the national statistic bureau announce here on Wednesday.

In Bali, the center of Indonesia's tourism industry, the number of foreign visitors scaled up by 8.92 percent to 336,600 in August, year on year, the head of the bureau who goes with a single name, Suryamin, told a press conference at the bureau headquarters.

China's tourist arrival posted the second highest in August with total number of 102,325, according to Suryamin.

The Indonesian government foresaw the number of foreign tourists to increase to more than 10 million people this year from 8.802 million people last years due to rapid growth in the sector, according to Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Mari Elka Pangestu.

She said that the sector grew by 7.72 percent and contributed 10.05 billion U.S. dollars to the government last year. Indonesia has projected 25 million foreign tourist arrivals in 2025. Indonesian tourism industry has recovered from the Asian financial crisis and terrorism attacks in recent years.
