PYONGYANG, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- The second session of the 13th Supreme People's Assembly (SPA) of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) will kick off in Pyongyang on Sept. 25, according to a decision made Thursday by the Presidium of the SPA.
The SPA, the highest legislative body of the DPRK, is convened once or twice a year. The first session of the SPA this year, held on April 9th, re-elected top leader Kim Jong Un the first chairman of the National Defense Commission and Pak Pong Ju the premier of the DPRK cabinet.
The session also re-elected Kim Yong Nam the president of the Presidium of the SPA and Choe Thae Bok chairman of the SPA.
The 13th SPA elected 687 deputies across the country in March, who will serve a five-year term.
The SPA has the power to adopt, amend or supplement enactments to the constitution, determine state policies and budgets, and adjust the country's leadership.
DPRK holds parliamentary session, forms new government
