WASHINGTON, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- The International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Christine Lagarde welcomed Thursday the latest decision by European Central Bank (ECB) to cut all interest rates in an effort to support the eurozone's fragile economy.

"The measures taken by the ECB will help to counteract the dangers posed by an extended period of low inflation, " said the IMF chief in a statement.

The ECB decided on Thursday to cut all the interest rates by 10 basis points and start buying non-financial private sector assets in an effort to prevent slide into deflation.
