GAZA, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Masked Gaza militants executed 18 Palestinians on Friday who were convicted of collaborating with Israel in Gaza city, pro-Hamas al-Aqsa TV reported.
Al-Aqsa said that 11 Palestinians were executed by firing squads near the main police headquarters in western Gaza city Remal neighborhood on Friday morning, while the rest seven were killed near al-Omari Mosque in downtown Gaza.
Pro-Hamas news agency al-Ray also quoted security officials as saying that the 18 were executed "after investigation with them for several days was completed and they confessed to collaborating with Israel."
Witnesses said the bodies of six people were thrown at Palestine Square in Gaza city's center with smears of blood on the ground.
The security website al-Majd that belongs to the Interior Ministry in Gaza said the execution is "part of a new campaign called hanging the necks."
"There will be no mercy for collaborators who are caught in the field, and the revolutionary courts of resistance will sue them with the toughest punishment," al-Majd said.
Fighting between Israel and Hamas resumed on Tuesday after their indirect cease-fire negotiations in Cairo collapsed.
More than 2,000 Palestinians have been killed and some 10,000 injured as a result of Israel's offensive in Gaza that started on July 8. Israel has also lost 67 lives, including 64 soldiers and three civilians.
