VALLETTA, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- The British Royal Navy ship HMS Enterprise on Sunday has picked up around 100 British nationals from Libya amid escalating violence in the Libyan capital, and is currently on its way to Malta, according to local report.
The navy vessel is expected to arrive in Malta early in the morning on Monday.
The evacuation was made after the foreign and commonwealth office of Britain shut down its embassy in Tripoli on Saturday and would relocate their remaining staff at the embassy to Tunis. It has urged Britons to leave the country immediately, saying consular assistance would not be available from Monday.
Only the Italians and the Maltese embassies from the EU are still maintaining their missions in Tripoli. Tourists have been advised against all travel to the country.
The government desperately attempts to control poor security situation in the country where many armed groups formed after the fall of former leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. Many fear the conflicts might slide into a full-fledged civil war, which could be even bloodier than the 2011 war.
