GAZA, July 31 (Xinhua) -- The death toll in the Gaza Strip climbed to 1,363, since Israel launched a large-scale offensive on Gaza, medical sources said on Thursday. Among those killed were 315 children and 166 women.
About 7,600 Palestinians were injured, including 2,307 children and 1,529 women.
More than 240,000 Palestinians, or one out of every eight Gazans, have been displaced.
The ministry said that 15 of its staff members were killed and 16 others wounded during the offensive.
Thirteen hospitals, seven care centers and nine ambulances were damaged.
The Israeli military offensive on the Gaza Strip, which was launched on July 8 amid rocket attacks on Israel by Palestinian militants, has also claimed the lives of 56 Israelis, including 53 soldiers.
Regional and international efforts to end the ongoing fighting have been going on, but a lasting cease-fire has been elusive so far.
