GAZA, July 9 (Xinhua) -- A total of 11 Palestinians were killed on Wednesday in waves of Israeli airstrikes targeting the Gaza Strip, medical sources said.
Ashraf al-Qedra, a health ministry official, said two teenager brothers were killed in an Israeli air raid on Shuja'ya neighborhood in east of Gaza City.
A woman in her twenties and her two-year-old baby were killed when an Israeli jet bombed their house in Zaitoun neighborhood, south of Gaza City, al-Qedra said, adding that another woman and her 14-year-old son were also killed in Israeli air raids. In addition to that, two young men in their twenties were slain in separate air raids on southern Gaza.
Earlier in the day, three Palestinians, including an old woman, were killed as Israeli warplanes hit central Gaza Strip.
Israel has launched a massive air campaign with the codename of "Operation Protective Edge" on Gaza early on Tuesday morning, following nearly 300 rockets fired from the Strip toward Israel's southern communities.
Over the past two days, the Israel Defense Forces has launched approximately 430 air strikes on Gaza.
The death toll in Gaza mounted to 35, and more than 300 Palestinians were injured, with 40 houses being completely destroyed.
Israel has announced it would enlarge its operation against Gaza, warning that Islamic Hamas movement, which rules the Gaza Strip, would pay a heavy price.
Meanwhile, Islamic Hamas movement said it would not stop launching rocket attacks on Israel as long as the airstrikes continued.
Gaza rocket fire showers Israeli cities
JERUSALEM/GAZA, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Heavy rockets fired from the Gaza Strip showered over multiple Israeli cities, including Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, on Tuesday night, as Hamas intensified its response to Israeli military operations against the coastal enclave.
Hamas announced they have launched overall four rockets into the Jerusalem area on Tuesday evening. The Israeli military confirmed that a rocket hit a house in a community near Jerusalem. Channel 10 said another rocket was intercepted by Israel's Iron Dome anti-missile battery, and a third one reportedly exploded in an open territory near Bet Shemesh. Abbas calls on Israel to stop striking on Gaza Strip
RAMALLAH, July 7 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Monday called on Israel to immediately stop its airstrikes on the Gaza Strip amid a growing tension in the enclave, state-run news agency Wafa reported.

Israeli war jets destroy militants' homes in southern Gaza
GAZA, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Israeli war jets destroyed early on Tuesday the homes of two Palestinian militants in the southern Gaza Strip towns of Rafah and Khan Younsi, witnesses and security officials said.
