JERUSALEM, July 6 (Xinhua) -- Israeli police arrested several suspects in the incident of murdering a Palestinian teen last week, which they believe was committed for nationalistic reasons, local media reported Sunday.
A senior police source told Israel's Channel 2 that a "dramatic development" in the investigation has led them to believe that the murder was most likely carried out by Jewish terrorists in revenge for the killing of three Israeli teenagers in June.
Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld wasn't immediately available to comment for Xinhua.
Palestinian Mohamed Abu Khdeir, a resident of the Palestinian neighborhood of Shuafat in Jerusalem, was abducted early on Wednesday morning and was found dead shortly after in the Jerusalem Forest in what Palestinians said was a revenge for the kidnap and killing of three Israeli teens.
According to an autopsy report, which was executed in Tel Aviv, 16-year-old Abu Khdeir was burnt alive. The Israeli and Palestinian coroners said that smoke was found in his lungs, and more than 90 percent of his body was wounded with burns.
Meanwhile, hundreds of Palestinians began to clash with the police. They hurled stones and flares at the police, who responded with tear gas, stun grenades and rubber coated bullets. The riots continued until Saturday night, spilling to towns and cities and central and northern Israel.
