BANGKOK, July 4 (Xinhua) -- The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), the official name of the Thai military junta, will stay to assist an upcoming interim government, the air force chief said Friday.
The NCPO will work with the interim cabinet, national legislative assembly and national reform council, which are expected to start operation in September or October until the junta's roadmap leading up to elections is completed, Prajin Juntong said.
A new general election is expected to take place around October 2015 and an elected government to take shape late next year, according to the roadmap.
Prajin did not elaborate on what powers will be vested in the NCPO after the formation of the provisional cabinet.
The draft of an interim constitution is being reviewed, he added.
The draft is expected to be submitted for royal endorsement by the end of this month, NCPO spokesman Winthai Suvaree said earlier.
