WASHINGTON, June 29 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Barack Obama will nominate Robert McDonald, former CEO of Procter & Gamble, as his choice to be the new head of the Department of Veterans Affairs, according to a CNN report aired Sunday.
The U.S. Veteran Affairs Department, with more than 300,000 employees, has been slammed by the public since April when a health care scandal, triggered by a VA hospital where 40 veterans allegedly died while waiting for treatment.
The further investigation on the VA scandal has revealed broad and deep-seated problems in the sprawling health care system, which provides medical care to about 6.5 million veterans annually.
Under increasing pressure from Congress to address troubling allegations of treatment delays and preventable deaths at VA hospitals, President Barack Obama accepted Eric Shinseki's resignation as VA Secretary on May 30.
