CAIRO, June 15 (Xinhua) -- The Arab League (AL) on Sunday strongly slammed the attacks committed by Jihadist-led militants in Iraq, but rejected any attempts of interference in the domestic affairs of the conflict-stricken country.
"AL denounces terrorist attacks that are being perpetrated by the group called 'Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL)' against the Iraqi people," an AL statement said following an extraordinary meeting of permanent representatives in Cairo.
AL also slammed the recent terrorist attacks that "aim to destabilize Iraq and harm its unity."
Bloody clashes broke out last week between the Iraqi security forces and hundreds of ISIL militants who have taken control of several neighborhoods in the western part of the northern city of Mosul, some 400 km northwest of the capital Baghdad. The battle later expanded to other areas and provinces after the Iraqi security forces withdrew from the city.
The pan-Arab body called on Iraqi leaders and politicians to engage in "a comprehensive and earnest dialogue to confront the threats that endanger the security, stability and unity of Iraq."
