RAMALLAH, June 5 (Xinhua) -- The Palestinian presidency has vowed on Thursday to unprecedentedly respond to Israel's bids to build new 1,500 settler units in east Jerusalem and the West Bank.
Nabil Rdeneh, spokesman of Palestinian president, said in a press release that Israel must realize that its settlement activities are rejected, warning of an unprecedented response to such policies.
He added that the move came after the international community recognized the recently announced national unity government, which is opposed by Israel.
"There can be no peace when Israel is going on with its settlement activities," he stressed.
Israeli Housing Ministry on Thursday advanced plans for 1,500 new settlement housing units in the West Bank and East Jerusalem in response to the new Palestinian unity government.
On Monday, the Palestinian national unity government was sworn in before Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank city of Ramallah, ending seven years of political division between Abbas's Fatah party and Islamic Hamas movement.
Israel announced it will take punitive measures in response to the Palestinian consensus government which is backed by Hamas, classified by Israel as a terror group.
