BANGKOK, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Thai coup leader Gen. Prayuth Chan- ochaon has issued directions for officials on the process toward an election.
Thai army deputy spokeswoman Sirichan Ngathong said on Thursday that a three-step guideline was put forward by Prayuth during a video conference with heads of various sections set up by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO).
The guidelines include quickly restoring normal administration to the country; creating favorable conditions, including the establishment of a legislative council and a reform council; and working toward holding elections under a full-fledged democracy, reported the Bangkok Post. No timeframe was set for the process.
The NCPO has not considered the appointment of a new prime minister or a cabinet. It would initially concentrate on restoring peace and order in the country and solving the people's immediate problems, as well as the establishment of a reconciliation center, Bangkok Post quoted Winthai Suwari, the NCPO spokesman as saying.
Regarding new budget bill, the coup leader stressed that it must be based on equality and urgency in responding to the people' s needs, without causing a debt burden or breaching financial and monetary discipline. The interests of the majority must be paramount.
