JERUSALEM, May 20 (Xinhua) -- An exchange of gunfire erupted in the West Bank city of Jenin on Tuesday when Israeli troops were searching for suspected militants, the army said.
The pre-dawn raid sparked a riot in which some 50 residents of Jenin's refugee camp opened fire and hurled stones and firebombs at the soldiers who returned fire. There were no reports of injuries on the Israeli side.
One man, whose identity was not disclosed, was arrested and handed over to security forces for questioning. The soldiers seized improvised weapons, including rifles and explosive devices, during searches of homes in the camp, the army said.
Separately, seven Palestinians suspected of involvement in security-related offenses were apprehended in raids across the West Bank overnight.
