Lithuania to hold presidential runoff on May 25: electoral body

VILNIUS, May 12 (Xinhua) -- Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite and social democratic candidate Zigmantas Balcytis will compete in a presidential runoff on May 25, the Central Electoral Commission said on Monday.

No winner emerged from the first round of election on Sunday, in which Grybauskaite carried 46.61 percent of the vote, while social democratic candidate Zigmantas Balcytis and Labor Party candidate Arturas Paulauskas garnered 13.84 percent and 12.20 percent respectively.

Some 52.14 percent of the 2.55 million voters cast their ballots in the first round of voting.

The second round will be held in conjunction with the election of European Parliament on May 25.
