YANGON, May 10 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar and India have vowed to cooperate for peace and stability in the two countries' border areas, state media reported Saturday.
Under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in Nay Pyi Taw Friday, Myanmar and India would take measures for prevention against insurgency to ensure prevailing peace and stability along the two countries' border areas and curb illegal smuggling and human trafficking.
Besides, the MoU calls for exchange of information and coordination between the two armed forces for border security to crack down on illegal trespass and taking care of boundary lines, the report said.
The MoU was signed by Myanmar Deputy Minister of Defense Major- General Kyaw Nyunt and India Ambassador to Myanmar Gautam Mukhopadhaya.
According to earlier official report, there remained a border area to be demarcated and the two sides are seeking to sort out the differences amicably over the issue
India suspended construction of an integrated check post (ICP) there in January and teams from both sides have carried out land survey on the area.
In 2013, Myanmar objected India's construction of the so called ICP near the border pillar-78.
Myanmar signed a demarcation agreement with India in March 1967. However, due to differences over the location of border pillars in Bamaw valley, several border marks have not yet been established, according to then official report.
