PHNOM PENH, May 10 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen flew to Nay Pyi Taw, the capital city of Myanmar, on Saturday morning to attend the 24th ASEAN Summit and the related meetings to be held from Saturday to Sunday.
The prime minister was accompanied by Foreign Minister Hor Namhong, Commerce Minister Sun Chanthol, Finance Minister Aun Pornmoniroth, Education Minister Hang Chuon Naron, and Secretary General of the Council for the Development of Cambodia Sok Chenda Sophea, as well as other members of the government.
The summit, which brought together the leaders of ASEAN, will be held under the theme "Moving Forward in Unity to a Peaceful and Prosperous Community", Sry Thamarong, minister attached to Prime Minister Hun Sen, told reporters at Phnom Penh International Airport before departure.
"The leaders of ASEAN will touch on issues concerning ASEAN community building process in 2015 and ASEAN community's post- 2015 vision," he said. "In addition, they will discuss ASEAN's external relations as well as regional and international issues of common interest and concerns."
At the end of the summit, the leaders will adopt the Nay Pyi Taw Declaration, outlining the next step of actions that ASEAN countries should do to achieve the ASEAN's goals.
Founded in 1967, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations ( ASEAN) group Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
The bloc has set December 31, 2015 for the realization of the ASEAN Economic Community, which will be a region of free flows of goods, services, skilled labor, capital and investment.
