RAMALLAH, April 27 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said on Sunday that the Jewish Holocaust is the most heinous crime against humanity in the modern era.
In a statement published by state-run news agency Wafa on Holocaust Remembrance Day, Abbas showed sympathy with families of the victims and innocent people who were killed by the Nazis.
"The Holocaust is a reflection of the concept of ethnic discrimination and racism which the Palestinians strongly reject and act against," Abbas said.
Abbas, who has always been accused by Israeli officials of being a denier of the Holocaust, said that "the world must do its utmost to fight racism and injustice in order to bring justice and equality to oppressed people wherever they are."
The Palestinian people, who suffer from injustice, oppression and denied freedom and peace, are the first to demand to lift the injustice and racism that befell other peoples subjected to such crimes, Abbas stressed.
He urged the Israeli government to seize the current opportunity to reach a just and comprehensive peace deal based on the two-state solution.
The Holocaust was the mass murder of approximately six million Jews during World War II by Nazi Germany, led by Adolf Hitler.
