SINGAPORE, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Singapore's National Research Foundation announced a 10-year program to boost the city state's expertise in nuclear technology on Wednesday.
The National Research Foundation is hoping to train some 100 scientists in the area in the next decade.
The National University of Singapore will offer Engineering and Physics students a minor in Medical Physics to give students with an interest in nuclear technology a foundation in the subject.
Some 63 million Singapore dollars (50 million U.S. dollars) of funding will be set aside for the program for the first five years.
The program comprises two components such as the Singapore Nuclear Research and Safety Initiative and the Nuclear Education and Training Fund.
Singapore Nuclear Research and Safety Initiative will focus on research and developing capabilities in nuclear safety, while the fund will support education and training in those areas.
