KANSAS, United States, April 13 (Xinhua) -- A 70-year-old male shot and killed three people in two separate shootings in the U.S. city of Kansas Sunday afternoon, according to Overland Park Police Chief John Douglass.
The first two people were shot in a car outside the theater at the Jewish Community Center. One was dead on arrival, and the other died in the hospital.
A third person was shot and killed at Village Shalom.
The initial call to police came in at 1:03 pm for shots fired. Police said witnesses stated there was one fatality at that location.
The suspect was apprehended at a nearby elementary school. Police described the shooter as a white male in his 70s with a beard. They believed he used a shotgun, and may have possibly used a handgun.
Initial reports from a KCTV5 reporter indicated that the suspect appeared to yell "Heil Hitler" as he was being led away in handcuffs by Overland Park police. But according to Douglass, the suspect in the back of a car made several statements. The police are "looking at them for accuracy and sorting through their evidential value."
There is no indication that the shooter knew the victims.
