HAVANA, April 12 (Xinhua) -- Cuban President Raul Castro met here Saturday with visiting French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius, a sign of improving relations between the two countries, an official statement said.
Fabius told a press conference after the meeting that his visit, the first for a French foreign minister in 31 years, marked a new stage in the relationships between France and Cuba.
He stressed France's willingness to participate in the development of Cuba, and said that there are many fields in which the two countries may cooperate such as energy, tourism, agriculture, education, and culture.
He also praised the role played by Cuba in the peace talks between the Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), and the success of the recent Summit of the Community of Latina American and Caribbean States (CELAC) last January in Havana.
Fabius told reporters that a representative of the French government will attend the International Fair of Tourism in Havana next May.
