Four-way talks on Ukraine to be held on April 17 in Geneva

English.news.cn   2014-04-12 03:17:42

WASHINGTON, April 11 (Xinhua) -- The United States, Ukraine, Russia, and the European Union will discuss the ongoing situation surrounding Ukraine on April 17 in Geneva, the State Department said on Friday.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry will attend the four-way meeting and continue efforts to "de-escalate the situation in Ukraine and find a diplomatic path forward," State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said in a statement.

The United States is committed to mobilizing the international community in support of Ukraine, and helping the Ukrainian people build a stable, democratic and prosperous country, she added.

U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland told lawmakers on Wednesday that the United States does not have high expectations for the meeting, but it is "very important to keep that diplomatic door open."
