PARIS, April 9 (Xinhua) -- French President Francois Hollande downsized his cabinet and introduced new faces to the lineup Wednesday following the ruling Socialists' heavy loss in local election.
According to a list announced by outgoing Elysee General Secretary Pierre-Rene Lemas, 14 junior ministers will join the new cabinet as the size of the cabinet will be reduced from 38 portfolios to 30, indicating that a smaller team better suites the presdient's aim to save public expenditure and drive down soaring deficit.
The rest of the cabinet has already been appointed on Tuesday.
Among the fresh faces in the cabinet is Harlem Desir, the Socialist Party (PS) chief who was named Minister of State in charge of European affairs.
Jean-Marie Le Guen, who is close to new Prime Minister Manuel Valls, will take charge of parliamentary relations.
Kader Arif kept his post at the defense ministry in charge of veterans.
The new cabinet lineup was unveiled after Valls won a confidence vote at the parliament on Tuesday.
